USING THE CALCULATOR
This calculator takes the various money management systems we've tried, and sees how they would work over the course of a simulated season (or several). You are asked to fill out the following information. In our tests, we went through all six systems, testing each with a win percent of 53% (to represent an undisciplined bettor), 58% (for a typical handicapper), and 62% (our average). For each system and each win percent, we tested with a cautious 10%, reasonably aggressive 30%, and highly aggressive 50% bet rate. We used a $2,000.00 bankroll and a 10,000 season loop.
| BANKROLL |
The starting bankroll for each season. This has little effect on the stats (most of them are percentage-based), but it's good for seeing what results might be with your bankroll. |
| BET PERCENT |
The percent of your bankroll that will be bet each week (not each game). Higher bet rates have greater rewards but more risk (with our system, though, we've found betting higher is statistically better than lower if the win percent is good) |
| SYSTEM |
The Money Management System you are testing.
Cautious: Focuses on minimizing losses while allowing some potential for exponential growth.
Strategic: Baseline system, balanced between growth and loss protection.
Streak: An aggressive system aiming for big wins. Our favorite!
Focused: A more stable system, emphasizing consistent discipline.
No Management: A randomized system, designed to represent the range of undisciplined bettors.
No Management - One Game/Week: The No Management system, betting only one game per week. |
| WIN PERCENT |
The percentage chance of winning any given game. A typical sports bettor has an estimated 53% win rate. A typical handicapper somewhere around 58%. At JR Tips, we have about a 62% win rate. |
| LOOP |
How many seasons you want to loop through. If you choose one season, you will get much better details about the season, seeing how much was bet on each game, which games won, where streaks occurred, how the bankroll changed, and so on. |
Reading the Results - Single Season
When betting a single season, the system outputs full details on the season, with a week-by-week breakdown of what was bet, which games won, where streaks appeared, and so on, as well as a bar graph displaying the progress of the season. When looping, these calculations are all done "behind the scenes", rather than being displayed. The system outputs the following information:

| RESULTS |
The total amount won or lost that week. Positive results are blue, negative in red. |
| STREAK |
If you come out ahead two or more weeks in a row, the system notes how big of a streak you are having. |
| FINAL TOTAL |
The total bankroll at the end of the season. |
| FINAL PROFIT |
How much you won or lost total. |
FINAL PROFIT: PERCENT |
The percent of your original bankroll that you ended up with. A percent of under 100% represents a loss. When using the undisciplined systems, a negative percent means the bettor actually went below 0, taking money from other sources rather than sticking to its bankroll like it should. |

The number of games won during the season (while the win percent determines the percentage chance of a win, each game is randomly determined, so this total may vary from the win percent chosen) |

Reading the Results - Multiple Seasons
When looping through multiple seasons, rather than displaying each season in detail, the program provides statistical data throughout all seasons. The following data is provided:
AVERAGE RETURNS |
The average percent of the starting bankroll you ended up with (note that this is not a good statistical analysis of a system, as it tends to follow high results). |
MEDIAN RETURNS |
The median percent of the starting bankroll you ended up with. |
LOWEST RETURNS: |
The lowest result of all the seasons. |
HIGHEST RETURNS |
The highest result of all the seasons. |
EXCELLENT SEASONS |
The percent of seasons that resulted in excellent returns - over 500% of the starting bankroll. |
GREAT SEASONS |
The percent of seasons that resulted in great returns - over 200% of the starting bankroll. |
GOOD SEASONS |
The percent of seasons that resulted in good returns - over the starting bankroll |
POOR SEASONS |
The percent of seasons that resulted in poor returns - less than the starting bankroll |
BAD SEASONS |
The percent of seasons that resulted in bad returns - less than half the starting bankroll. |
FLOP SEASONS |
The percent of seasons that flopped - ending with less than 20% of the starting bankroll. |
WINNING SEASONS |
The percent of seasons that won money. |
LOSINGSEASONS |
The percent of seasons that lost money. |
RATING |
A point scale for the test (each excellent season is 5 points, great is 2, good 1, poor -1, bad -2, flop -5). |
