JrTips News: Vikings @ Saints September 9th, 2010 8:30 PM EST
Free NFL Weekly Picks insider previews the Minnesota Vikings and New Orleans Saints who will open up the season on Thursday, Sept 9th in the New Orleans Super Dome where the Saints will raise the championship banner.
This will be a huge revenge game to open the season after the Saints eliminated Brett Favre and the Vikings in overtime of the NFC title game winning 31-28 in a game that saw Minnesota outgain the Saints 475-257 and got three rushing touchdowns from Adrian Peterson although they lost three fumbles and threw two interceptions which caused them the chance to go to the Super Bowl.
Favre comtiplated coming back after suffering injuries in last year’s Championship game against the Saints that included a sprain ankle but will make his 286th consecutive start at the age of 40 to start the 2010 season.
Our Football insiders for Free NFL Weekly Picks report that both teams looked solid in the preseason and have some of the top talent in the NFL especially on the offensive side of the ball but will enter the start of this season with key injuries they must overcome to start the season.
Minnesota will start the season without Sidney Rice who became the Vikings #1 receiver last season but Favre who three 33 touchdowns to only 7 interceptions in 2009 will still have plenty of weapons to start the season.
The explosive all purpose receiver Percy Harvey is expected to play after suffering migraines in the preseason along with tight end Visanthe Shiancoe and Adrian Peterson who will be the center of attack after gaining 1,383 yards while leading the NFL with 18 touchdowns last year.
New Orleans and Brees who led the NFL with the top-ranked offense in 2009 didn’t look like they slowed down at all on offense throughout the preseason. Brees will go for his fourth consecutive year throwing for 4,000 yards and won’t slow down this season behind a great offensive line and weapons like Marques Colston, Jermey Shockey, Reggie Bush and Robert Meachem.
Both teams will be starting the season with key injuries on defense that made big plays to aid them in a successful 2009 season.
The Saints who ranked 26th in the league in passing last season will be without safety Darren Sharper who lead the defense in making big plays last season while the Vikings will be without Cedric Griffen who went down in the NFC Championship game and weaken a secondary that allowed 26 touchdowns and 218 yards per game passing.

Jrtips News:Free MLB Picks: Giants @Padres September 9th, 2010 10:05 PM EST
MLB Expert Picks insider reports the San Diego Padres beat the Dodgers finishing a 3-game sweep after losing 10 straight while the San Francisco Giants lost to the Arizona Cardinals.
The Giants loss has now separated these teams by two games in the NL West as they start an essential four-game series tonight at Petco Park that could determine who will be the eventual divisional champions.
The Padres pitching staff got back on track in the last series only giving up three runs over the last 3 –games after posting a 5.00 ERA during the 10-game losing streak. San Diego will start Jon Garland who is 13-10 with a 3.31 ERA this season although he is 3-0 against the Giants in four career starts with an ERA of 2.15 ERA.
Garland has lost two in a row after losing to the Rockies Saturday when he gave up three runs and seven hits in just 4 2 1/3 innings but was dominate in his previous three outings posting a 0.98 ERA.
San Francisco will counter with Matt Cain who is 10-10 with a 3.18 ERA but is 0-2 this season against the padres posting an ERA of 4.34ERA. The Giants have been tough to beat with Cain on the mound since the All-star break as they have won 8 out of 10 times he has started during that span.
San Diego is 9-2 against the Giants this season, 11-3 verses them at home since 2009 and 13-3 against them when Cain starts since 2007. Each game of the series will be like a playoff game as the pitchers will dominate this series with both offenses struggling.
MLB Expert Picks insider reports that the Giant offense has scored less than two run in four out of 7 games this month while the Padre offense has scored less than four runs over its last 12 games.

Jrtips News: FREE NFL Picks Week 1 Preview: Dallas Cowboys @ Washington Redskins
NFL Picks insider previews the season opener between the Cowboys and Redskins on Sunday night in the nation’s capital. Coming into the 2010-11 season the Cowboys are projected one of the favorites to make it to the SuperBowl as they are stacked on both sides of the ball.
Tony Romo leads a Cowboy offense which ranked second in the NFL in total yards and first in the NFC East in passing and rushing yards.
The Pro Bowl quarterback has a plethora of weapons at receiver starting with Miles Austin who emerged as the #1 receiver last season catching 81 balls for 1,320 yards along with the NFC’s best tight end in Jason Whitten and now Dez Bryant, their explosive #1 draft pick.
Dallas has tremendous depth at the ruining back position with a triple threat featuring Marion Barber who had 932 yards in 2009, Felix Jones who had 685 yards and Tashard Choice with 349 yards last season.
The Cowboy defense that was ranked 2nd in scoring, 4th against the rush and 9th overall in total yards is just as dominating and will play a 3-4 defense that has a lot of size upfront and a fierce pass rush led by DeMarcus Ware.
The Redskins who were an embarrassment at times last season will start a new era led by head coach Mike Shannahan and quarterback Donavan Mc Nabb. The Redskins have been dealing with a lot of offseason issues surrounded by Albert Haynesworth as the former Denver Bronco head coach has been trying to change the attitude within the Redskins organization.
The addition of McNabb will help the Redskins in that area although they will still have to deal with the same offensive line problems that allowed 46 sacks last season. Shannahan has a history of teams being able to run the ball so look for Washington try to establish their run game with running backs Clinton Portis, Willie Parker and Larry Johnson.
The Redskins defense was actually pretty good last season as they were ranked 10th overall in the NFL in total yards but were put in bad positions with an offense that couldn’t move the ball and had too many turnovers.
There will be a lot of excitement for this game with two NFC rivals playing on Sunday night in front of the entire country to start their season. McNabb will start although he didn’t play the last two preseason games so look for Shannon to protect him by establishing the run.
Washington knows they will have to keep it close in a low scoring game to have a chance to win and
our NFL Picks insider projects that these two physical defenses will set the tone for the game.
In their last matchup in 2009, Washington’s defense held its own with the Cowboys but eventually wore down in the 4th quarter because their offense couldn’t sustain drives and stay on the field.

Free NCAAF Picks Preview: Florida State@ Oklahoma Sooners
NCAAF Picks insider previews the Oklahoma Sooners and Florida State Seminoles who will meet on Saturday for their first true test of the season. Both teams will be looking to establish themselves use this game as a measuring stick after a mediocre 2009 year.
The Sooners finished last season going 8-5 and beat Stanford in their bowl game while Florida St. went 6-6 and won their Bowl game in Bobby Bowden’s last game as head coach.
Each team were big favorites last week as the Sooners beat Utah State who was a 34 point underdog but gave up an alarming 421 yards while the Seminoles beat Samford and gave up 300 yards.
Oklahoma lost some talented players to the NFL and the most noted players were first round draft picks Sam Bradford who was taking #1 and Gerald McCoy who was the #3 draft pick.
The Sooners sophomore quarterback Landry Jones started last season due to Bradford’s injury and was inconsistent throughout the year although he threw for more than 3,000 yards in their pro style offense.
Jones has some homerun threats at the receiver position and senior running back DeMarco Murray who is one of the country’s big play threats had 218 yards and two touchdowns on 35 carries last week. The Sooners have some concerns on defense as they were vulnerable in the middle while the secondary has two new starting corners were abused last week by Utah State.
Florida State looked like the old Seminoles as they are loaded with speed all over the field while they return 10 starters from an offense that ranked second in the ACC only behind Georgia Tech.
Florida State is led by senior quarterback Christian Ponder who is one of the best quarterbacks in the country and completed 68 percent of his passes throwing for 2,717 yards before he got injured in the ninth game of the season last year. Ponder has weapons all over the field and an offensive line that returned all five starters and is one of the best in the nation.
The Seminoles also have trouble stopping opposing offenses as they were ranked 108th in the country last year in total defense. The new addition of defensive coordinator Mark Stoops, the brother of Oklahoma’s head coach Bob Stoops should improve this Seminole defense as he helped Arizona climb to 25th in the country in total defense but it will take some time to develop chemistry.
Florida State and Oklahoma both have prolific offenses with skill players who can make big plays so look for these inferior defensives to struggle.
